Coate WaterCoate was popular again today, with the following reports from Tony Martin Harry King and David King.

Tony Martin
Today the Chinese Soft-shelled Turtle showed for thirty minutes, but otherwise it was very quite here today. The Kingfisher landed in front of the hide for a short time and then a Great Spotted Woodpecker came onto the feeders. (Tony Martin)

SwindonThe Great Spotted Woodpecker was in the garden again today. Have seen it most days for the past 10 days or so. Also we have had a Red Underwing Moth the last few evenings, not the best photo as it flits about not wanting to settle, then when it does it closes its wings. (Trevor & Sue Clayson)

Also in Swindon: I had this moth tonight which I'm not quite sure of, but it does look like a Brown Rustic. Now believed to be a Small Square-spot. (Ewa Niskanen)

Lydiard Park: It was a 6:00am start with the following species recorded - 3 Yellow Wagtail, Spotted Flycatcher, 11 Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Whitethroat, Blackcap, 10+ Swallow, 4 House Martin, Sparrowhawk, Jay, 2 Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Nuthatch. (Matt Pringle)

Nythe: This morning an Orange Swift found its way into the kitchen. Also what I thought were Silver Y moth caterpillars (Day old - 22 Aug 13), have quadrupled in size and have tiny hairs. Looking through my guide books it appears that Silver Y caterpillars are hairless! (Martin Adlam)

Lambourn / Ashbury: As I was driving a bus to Lambourn twice today, on the first trip I saw a Buzzard on a telegraph pole in Ashbury. However on the second trip I saw a larger bird, lighter brown than the Buzzard and white stripes on the wings. Has anyone got an idea as to what I might have seen? (Steve Harper)
