Coate Water: At Coate Water today 2 Kingfishers, 3 Little Grebes, 90+ Wigeon, 20 Gadwall, 10 Teal, 6 Shovelers, 16 Tufted Ducks, 1 Snipe, 2 Grey Wagtails, 5 Grey Herons, 6 Cormorants, 1 Sparrowhawk, 8 Great Crested Grebes, Blue Tits, Great Tits, House Martins, 1 Nuthatch and 1 Treecreeper. A Roe Deer buck showed on the point, his coat was changing from Summer to Winter. There were a few last Dragonflies about 3 Migrant Hawkers. (Graham Cox)

Old Town: At this time of year young Fox's have been kicked out of the family unit and are desperately searching for food and new territories. However, in Old Town, there is still time for some important sunbathing ! (Jim Day)

Rivermead: Went to Rivermead looking for the Water Vole’s with no luck, but managed to spot this Crayfish. (Harry King)

Marlborough to Avebury: This afternoon we walked from Marlborough to Avebury.

West Woods area - 2 Buzzards, a Kestrel, 2 Jays & 2 Pheasants.
Leaving West Woods heading for East Kennett - 7 Buzzards riding a thermal, a Red Kite, a Kestrel, 5 Swallows & a Red Admiral.
A Sparrowhawk & 2 Ravens near West Overton. 53 Lapwing over North Farm.
Fyfield Down - a Meadow Pipit, a Skylark, 30+ Goldfinch & a Buzzard.
15 Collared Doves on a farm building in Green Street, Avebury.
As we were almost home there were House Martins feeding young in the nest in Shrivenham Road, Swindon. (Trevor & Sue Clayson)

Lydiard Park: A 6.30am start this morning saw 86 Pied Wagtails on the  sports field, 18 Goldfinch, 35 Lesser Black Backed Gulls, 16 Herring Gulls, and 34 Black-headed Gulls. On the lake was the usual Mallard, Coots, Moorhen, 4 Little Grebe and one solitary Great Crested Grebe, 2 Mute Swan and 4 cygnets. Elsewhere in the park 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Mistle Thrush, Grey Wagtail, Treecreeper, several Long tailed Tits and 2 Buzzards. (Mike Newton)


Mouldon Hill: A walk around the lake, canal and river this afternoon, was quite rewarding with highlights being 1 Cetti's Warbler in sub-song in the weedy canal, 2 Blackcaps, 10 Chiffchaff with two singing and roving tits accompanied by a few Goldcrests. (Martin Adlam)


Blakehill: Snipe, Blackcap, Grey Wagtail, 2 Ravens, 3 Reed Buntings, Linnets, Green Woodpecker, Chiffchaff singing, c20 Goldfinch, c20 Meadow Pipits and c30 Skylarks. (Robin Griffiths / John Durell)


Stanton Park:  Went  to Stanton park this afternoon and met up with Dave Butcher. It was very busy people wise. I fed the Bank Voles and then we wandered down to the Dragonfly ponds. Butterfly wise there were a few Large Whites and a Comma. Sat in the middle of one of the ponds was a frog. A few Common Darters and a Migrant Hawker flying around. (Gary Chalker)

Coate Water:  I went to Coate this morning to try my new lens out and in Hide 1, I saw a Tufted DuckPheasant, the usual Great TitRobin and Kingfisher. Plus my favourite family of Swans and seeing 6 cygnets with the one hooked up last week now free. (Steve Harper)

Swindon Sewage Works: This am from the path running past the west edge of the sewage works I saw a Spotted Flycatcher (hedge beside waste ground), 8 Teal and 1 Green Sandpiper on the lagoon visible from the path, Buzzard, Peregrine and Sparrowhawk. There was a Green Woodpecker at Shaw Forest Park and also in the area 2 Migrant Hawkers and Speckled Wood. (Gavin Salisbury

Coate Water: Today at Coate Water I spotted some Shoveler, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, a Snipe and all the other usual birds. The Kingfisher and Bank Vole also made a few appearances. (Harry King)

Lydiard Park: I have signed up for the BTO Winter Thrushes Survey and chose Lydiard Park as my square and made my first visit this morning.  Result?  2 Blackbirds!! More interestingly, also seen included 24 Pied Wagtails on the playing fields, 18 Goldfinches, young Greenfinch and a couple of Little Grebes on the small end of the lake. (Richard Williams)


Swindon: On the way back from Bushy Park, London and about 2 miles from the Swindon junction on the M4 I noticed two raptors being mobbed by a Carrion Crow just below the tree line. They looked a bit big to be buzzards and as I  got close one came up to confirm they were Ospreys travelling east. (Martin Murray)

Chiseldon: In the garden today plenty of butterflies. Several Small Tortoiseshells, 4 Comma, 1 Red Admiral, Large and Small Whites. (Malcolm Royal)

Stratton Wood: A good couple hours walking around Stratton Wood was very rewarding with some good birds seen. This time round I recorded 15 Chiffchaff (including 3 singing), a Garden Warbler and 4 Blackcaps with a male in sub-song. Other bird species noted were 3 Common Buzzard, a pair of Kestrels, 1 Lesser Black-backed GullWood Pigeon, 1 Green Woodpecker, 10 Swallows, Meadow Pipit, Pied Wagtail, 2 fly-by Grey Wagtails, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, 4 Goldcrest, Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, 15 Jackdaw, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Greenfinch and at 4 Bullfinches. Also seen 3 Grey Squirrels, 21 Speckled Wood butterflies, 5 Green-veined Whites, 4 Red Admirals, 5 Comma, 1 Small Tortoiseshell and a lot of Field Grasshoppers. A lot of the butterflies are feeding on the Ivy flowers,on the first part of the track from the Car Park. (Martin Adlam)
