Barbury Castle
Location

As we were there earlier than I was yesterday we headed southwards from the western end of the castle and saw Raven, a Kestrel, 4 Corn Buntings and a pair of Stonechat. Several Lesser Black-backed Gulls flew by. Along the trail there were far more Starlings and Fieldfare than yesterday, this time foraging in a field, with some Linnets amongst them.

At "Finch Corner" there were more Tree Sparrows (c12) and far more Brambling (c20) than yesterday with the Yellowhammers, Greenfinches, Chaffinches, Blue Tits and Great Tits. Amongst them a Song Thrush, Dunnock and 2 Robins. By the numbers the Bramblings had gone ahead of us and all took off as a car approached.

Climbing up to the castle on the road, a white feral pigeon sat quietly in the turf. At the Stables a Pied Wagtail and a bunch of House Sparrows.

I went to Barbury Castle parking at the western end and walking down the Old Ridgeway eastwards. In the woods to the south was a mixed flock of Starlings and Fieldfares.

At "Finch Corner" I loved finding Brambling and Tree Sparrows: both lovely birds and two very welcome late year ticks.  Also in there Greenfinches, Chaffinches, Goldfinches Great Tits, Blue Tits, Yellowhammers and an invading Sparrowhawk that unsurprisingly sent them all up.

In the field a Pheasant and Muntjac were both surviving the local shoot!  I climbed up to the Castle and saw a couple of Stock Doves fly close by and by the castle's southern side 2 Meadow Pipits.  A splendid morning.
